Who teaches

The people behind the courses.

Three climbers — working guides, working climbers. Each runs one of our gyms and teaches the courses they care most about.

Sam Hayward

Bend, OR · AMGA Single Pitch Instructor

Sam has been climbing for twenty-two years and teaching for ten. He runs the Bend gym and teaches Movement Fundamentals and Anchor Building. His credentials say AMGA Single Pitch Instructor; his students say he won't let you bail on a sequence until you've tried it three different ways.

Marisol Vega

Boulder, CO · AMGA Rock Guide

Marisol came up on the Front Range and now teaches Multi-Pitch Leading out of the Boulder gym. AMGA Rock Guide. She's the person you want if you're trying to bridge the gap between gym-strong and outside-confident — she's spent more time on that exact problem than almost anyone we know.

16 yrs climbing · 7 yrs guiding

Kudzai Wiremba

Salt Lake City, UT · Youth head coach

Kudzai runs the Salt Lake gym and is the head coach for our regional youth team. He's developing the next course (rope management for the gym-to-crag jump) and runs office hours monthly for Members.

Why the coaches wrote the courses.

Every course on this site was written by the person who runs the gym it came out of. That is not a marketing arrangement; it is the only way we know to keep the curriculum honest. The people teaching the lesson are the people who will see you try it on Tuesday.

It also means the courses stay small. Three of them, fifteen lessons, and nothing padded to fill a module count.
